Sober Austin Celebrates 10 Year Anniversary

In 2007, I launched SoberAustin.com with the goal of providing a comprehensive website for the Austin community on the prevention, treatment and ongoing recovery from the disease of alcoholism, drug addiction and related mental health issues. I wanted it to be easy to navigate, contain reliable information, but with no advertising, pop-ups or rabbit holes.  While small fees are collected for new and revised listings, SoberAustin is a no-profit website and is my gift to the recovery community. It is my way of giving back through a website of resources what was so freely given to me by many people who helped me get started on my road to recovery both personally and professionally. I am grateful to all who support SoberAustin and it is with great pleasure I present to the community a new website that has grown to a valuable resource directory with over 50 pages!

All New Website

It was time for the trusty old HTML website to get a makeover and some added features to reflect the dynamic community which it serves. The new website by San Marcos Creative is now mobile-responsive and looks good on any device or operating system. You will find all the same pages as before with a few new ones. The biggest and most exciting new feature is the Events Calendar that allows anyone to submit their own event.

Add Your Events

Armed with event details, anyone can add their meeting, professional training or conference to the calendar. Once you submit an event, I’ll give it a quick review to make sure the information is in good shape before giving the final okay. Check out the how-to page for a brief guide to submitting events.

Keeping it Simple

What a concept! Early on I heard “Keep it simple…let’s don’t mess this thing up”. The website is still as it was 10 years ago when it comes to how the listings are organized….in alphabetical order. There are plenty of recovery websites that will show you listings in the order of how much they paid….but not on SoberAustin.com.

12 Step Meetings and Sober Living

These two pages, 12 Step Meetings and Sober Living, have always received a lot of traffic and now they are even easier to be found in three different places…the top navigation bar, the left sidebar menu and the footer.

Professional Resources

The website has always been for three kinds of people…those still suffering seeking help, those already in recovery, and professionals in the field. The Professional Resource section has three pages…Networking/Services, Academic Resources, and Trade Associations/Organizations.

Easy Navigation

With over 50 pages, it was important for the site to be searchable and easy to navigate. The search bar in the header is a great starting point if you’re looking for something specific, and I kept the trusty left sidebar menu the same, with a few minor tweaks.

Featured Stories

While there is still no paid advertising, each month the blog will feature a news-worthy article about a new facility, program or professional.  If you are interested in this opportunity, contact me at the email link below for pricing and to reserve your placement.

Thank you for all your support!

Take a look at the new site and let me know what you think. Feel free to send me an email and if you are so inclined to make a donation, click on the link at the top of the page.

Yours in the spirit of recovery,

Marsha Robinson
