Sober February Events in Austin, Texas
It may be the middle of winter, but the weather continues to be delightful in Austin, Texas. With average temperatures in the mid-60s, it’s a great time to get outside and enjoy yourself. As you maintain your recovery, there are a number of sober February events in Austin, Texas, that are fun, interesting, and even help you get some exercise and fresh air!
Sweeten It Up
Of course, one of the main events in February is Valentine’s Day. Do something a little different this year and check out Mozart Coffee’s “To the Moon and Back Valentine’s Event: Coffee and Dessert Tasting.” Enjoy live music, a 3-course dessert, chosen from baked good crafted on-site and a selection of fine coffees. Live music on the outdoor, lakeside deck adds to the ambience. Keeping everyone safe and properly distanced, they offer a 6:00pm, 8:00pm, and 10:00pm event every night from February 11th to the 14th. You’ll also get a special gift from Mozart’s!
Drive Up to a Show
Missing the movies? You can see a show safely at the Blue Starlite Mini Urban Drive-In. They offer some great movies during February, including the romantic “The Notebook,” “Casablanca,” and “Breakfast at Tiffany’s.” Billed as the “world’s one and only mini urban boutique” drive-in theater, Blue Starlite only takes about 15-40 cars per night, depending on the location. They show classics, indie films, childhood favorites, and more, with the usual concessions of popcorn and soda available for you and your family.
Enjoy This is Now
Through February 28, the West Chelsea Contemporary is showing This is Now, recognizing the artists that define us now. The show is a high-impact, immersive exhibition. You’ll also be introduced to the gallery’s expansive collection, accessible to both new and established collectors. This is Now features over 40 artists in a 7800 square foot space transformed into a vibrant world of light, color, and reflection.
Hit the Rinks
Even though the weather feels more like late spring, it is still winter. One of the more enjoyable sober February events in Austin, Texas, is ice skating! Chaparral Ice offers a safe and fun skating environment for everyone, regardless of your experience or ability. You can learn how to skate, learn about playing hockey, or register for a public skating time. They also have special time slots just for adult sessions.
Check out Design Shine
Do you love art and the outdoors? Throughout the month of February, you can visit Design Shine 2020 (2020 because it launched in November 2020). The display is actually a competition designed to showcase emerging talent in design and architecture. Each installation featured in Design Shine draws on themes of resiliency and empathy in times of uncertainty. The show will reinvigorate your experience with captivating sculptural art works.
Support Local Farmers
Sober February events in Austin, Texas, include the opportunity to eat healthier and support local food growers. On Saturdays throughout February, you can check out the Texas Farmers Market at Lakeline and on Sundays, the market will be at Mueller. The Farmers Market emphasizes that every farmer at the market has been verified to ensure they are growing what they are selling and using sustainable practices on their farms. They are also following COVID-19 guidelines for the safety of shoppers and vendors.
Go for a Hike
Austin is a beautiful area for getting outdoors and getting some exercise. Since the month of February is so mild, it’s the perfect time for a hike. At the Balcones Canyonlands Preserve, endangered species are protected in the midst of some of the last wild places conserved to benefit wildlife and people. Plan your hike by checking out the City of Austin Wildland Conservation Division map before you go and enjoy the many trails and parks along the way.
